What's inside a GAS IT vapour tank?
The inside of a GAS IT vapour tank.
Before you fit a GAS IT tank its worth its worth clarifying that you should not assume all horizontal gas tanks that are red or classed as vapour tanks for running appliances like cookers, fridges and so forth are the same in design and function or use the same install requirements that a GAS IT vapour tank needs.
We mention the above as there are many well known companies in the UK who are just resellers of gas tanks and gas bottles bought from distributors around Europe and their customers assume their gas tanks are the same as ours.
DON'T ASSUME anything when it comes to gas refillable products.
If your fitting a EASYFIT GAS IT tank with factory mounted feet on them, then these feet have to be at the top at all times. this is because the pickup pipe, the fill valves and all other items in the tank are set for the tank valve plate to be at 105 degrees, which is automatically set if the feet are on the top. do not try to mount the tank so the feet are on the side or at the bottom as this will be dangerous!
All GAS IT tanks are manufactured with internal pickup pipes or liquid phase separators ©, as we at GAS IT and the regulatory bodies refer to them as, at the 105 deg angle which is the angle taken from the valve plate where the 4 valves in the tank are fitted, so all GAS IT tanks need to be installed with the valve plate at 105 degs - see above picture where you can see the inside part of the valve plate and specifically the vapour pickup pipes or in our case the Liquid Phase Separators©
It's important to also make sure the GAS IT tank is installed with our Liquid Phase Separators facing upwards, so they are above the liquid level in the tank when it's filled. To determine which upward, the simplest way to work this out is to look at the stamped text inside the aluminium airbox and if it's legible and not upside down, then the tanks pickup pipes are upward. To then get the tank installed at 105 deg's otherwise the tank will not function correctly and safety can be compromised. It's not only the gas liquid phase separators© that determine the need for the 105 angle, the 80% shut off valve is set to work and shut off at 105 degs, the gas level indicator also, so getting the angle wrong will either overfill or underfill the tank. To get the right angle, we sell a simple GAS IT angle device on our webshop, or if you have a phone with an angle app, that will be good enough.
Getting the angle right is only a necessary concern when installing a non feeted gas tank, because the unique GAS IT feeted tanks have been designed by us to make the install easy, quick and at the right angle from the start.
We do have a simple video on the GAS IT YouTube page that discusses and shows the 105 deg angle and how to look for it When installing a GAS IT horizontal vapour tank.
Please remember, if it's not a GAS IT tank DO NOT install the tank until, you have spoken to the supplier who will advise you how to install their tank.
