How to fit an 80% shut off valve in a GAS IT 2 hole bottle

The bottle should be stood upright for valve insertion and assembly and only hand tools should be used.

When fitting the 80% shut off valve into the GAS IT 2 hole bottle please look at the markings on any existing valves and make sure you put the valve back in the same location and orientation.  All valves are tapered threads so you need to make sure they re only fitted once and you also need to make sure the thread in the bottle is clean.

On the brass tanks valves, the thread normally has a blue sealant paste which has been applied at the factory.  We still recommend you use a liquid PTFE paste as an extra part when fitting the valve ( Added to the blue on the valve ) as this will add sealing the valve in the tank plus it also acts a lubricant to help install it.

This valve must be fitted so the float can drop perfectly vertical inside the bottle so when you tighten the valve it does not get damaged by the other items in the bottle.  This means you must have the valve plate ( top of the bottle ) facing upwards ( at 12 o clock ) and it must be horizontal so the valves drop down inside.

When assembling the fill elbow into the 80% shut off valve you need to first mount the main 80% shut off valve into the bottle securely. Once you have fitted the main 80% shut off valve then fit the elbow using PTFE sealant and then wind the elbow into the valve no more than 4 turns ( making sure the elbow faces out the same way it did originally)

Please read and follow the attached manufactures instructions for the required torque setting and for correct fitment of the valve - See attached document.

Make sure you have the the correct valve size and angle before fitting - for gasit bottles the valve should read 0 deg.  if you have a 200 mm diameter horizontal tank this valve should have stamped 200  - 105, if you have a 230 diameter tank this valve should have 230 - 105 stamped on the valve and so forth. If they are not correct then do not attemp fitting until you have the correct valves

We find that for the installation of the valves into the bottle its self there might be an extra turn that needed to point the valve in the right direction.

If you are unsure please contact GAS IT technical support before proceeding with any of this installation as we can not be held responsible for any damage or incorrect functionality of the  valves when you have fitted them in the tank.

If fitting new valves to a previously unused bottle then once all valves are fitted, please carry out a leak check using air, then drain the air and then carry out a further leak check with LPG vapour - using certified Leak detection spray on all the joints you have assembled.  Do not fill with liquid LPG until you are satisfied the tank is LPG vapour tight first and then only fill using no more than 2 ltrs of Liquid LPG to allow further leak checking.  Then continue to follow the install set up instructions here on the on the GAS IT knowledgebase here

If the bottle has previously been filled with gas please note there is still a risk of explosion even with an empty bottle and care should be taken when removing the valves and fitting new ones ( make sure the bottle is empty of gas pressure first ). We recommend purging the bottle with an inert gas or liquid before removing any valves and re fitting them.   Do not test a previously filled gas bottle with air to leak check, only use lpg vapour - using certified Leak detection spray on all the joints you have assembled.  Do not fill with liquid LPG until you are satisfied the tank is LPG vapour tight first and then only fill using no more than 2 ltrs of Liquid LPG to allow further leak checking.  Then continue to follow the install set up instructions here on the on the GAS IT knowledgebase here
