Bluetooth gas level sensor on vehicle mounted LPG tanks
You might have read that we list the GAS IT bluetooth sensor as working on gas bottle and gas tanks, but our most frequent question is will they work on underslung gas tanks fitted to vehicle.
The reason we say they work on gas tanks is because they are designed to work on any cylinder shaped gas tanks but to be clear the only gas tanks we actually class them as working with, are the bigger bulk gas tanks based at homes, schools, hospitals and not vehicle gas tanks
That all said, we have carried out extensive testing and we know the standard GAS IT Bluetooth unit will technically work and read very well with any make of underslung vehicle lpg tank ( as it works on any LPG tanks upto 85 ltr and the XL sensor works on tanks upto 4000 ltr ) but we currently don’t recommend them for that application as we have no technical means of making sure the sensor stays in place under the tank, as the magnets will position it securely in a none moving situation, but with the possibility of significant road debris and anything high on the ground etc knocking it off, we would not risk letting the magnets hold it in place on their own, plus we don’t have have a solution that makes the unit fully 100% waterproof at the moment either ( but we are working on a single solution.)
We do know many people who are putting the GAS IT Bluetooth sensors on the bottom of the GAS IT tanks in a zip tie bag ( waterproofing it ) using the magnets to hold it and then taping around the sensor in the bag / around the tank to hold it securely in place but we’ve not tried that way of mounting them ourselves so we can’t say how water tight or how secure they are in the real world, so with our business hat on we'd have to say whilst the unit will read the gas level in a GAS IT tank perfectly we don’t recommend it on tanks at this time.
Once a professional solution is available from GAS IT then we will start selling them for underslung tank applications but until then we can't.
Obviously if you want to fit one to your underslung tank and you make sure its waterproof and fixed securely then we won't stop you.
